Pat Handley

Pat Handley is a local artist living near Leigh Sinton. As a mature student she studied General Art and Design and then Fine Art in Birmingham
After finishing college 18 years ago Pat first worked with water colours on a wide range of subjects. The most rewarding of these were caricatures of social life around Birmingham, and the illustration of several children’s books.
Changing to painting in oils and acrylics, Pat specialised in impressive natural settings. She is particularly inspired by the interplay of light and texture. Her paintings are full of contrast and balance and have a depth of colour and content. Often this is achieved by the liberal use of a palette knife.
This exhibition illustrates the range and style of paintings which Pat has done recently. Together they comprise “Reflections of Summer” – based on places that she has visited this year like Tuscany, the National Botanic Garden of Wales, and local shows like Bromyard Gala and Welland Steam Fair. The canvasses cover subjects ranging from dramatic sunsets, the wonder of flowers in close-up, domestic life in, and the villages of, Italy, reflections in water and on objects such as brass musical instruments.
Having exhibited widely in local exhibitions and galleries, she then held several of her own solo exhibitions in Hereford and Malvern Library. Her work now hangs in many locations in the U.K. and abroad, large commissions having gone to Spain and the Canary Islands.
